Compensation Hourly base pay rate is $26.73 - $40.10/hour. May be eligible for additional compensation such as commission and/or incentive program.

Job Description

Shift: Thursday thru Monday – Variable Shift. The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, diagnostics and other duties as assigned. The technician will work under supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, learn advanced skills, and comply with company policies and performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment – electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment; use test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and use sound judgment.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work in accordance with company standards and upload pictures via the TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation.
  • Operate independently, manage own daily schedule, and maintain productivity within or close to standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for repair estimates and purchase order numbers.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, DOT.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Possess a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or provide a DOT medical card with >4 months validity.
  • Must be at least 21 years old to meet interstate operating authority regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Certifications

Required within 18 months:

  • ASE T8 (PMI)

Preferred:

  • ASE T3 (Drivetrain)
  • ASE T4 (Brakes)
  • ASE T5 (Suspension)
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
  • ASE T7 (HVAC)
  • ASE 608/609 (Service Advisor)
