Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture, capillary blood collection, and specimen collection according to laboratory standards.

Accurately identify patients using approved patient identification procedures.

Label, process, and transport specimens while maintaining specimen integrity.

Prioritize STAT and timed laboratory collections.

Collect specimens from patients of all ages, including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.

Document specimen collection and patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Follow infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, and laboratory safety guidelines.

Maintain adequate inventory of phlebotomy supplies.

Collaborate with nurses, laboratory personnel, and providers to ensure timely patient care.

Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training Program.

Washington State Medical Assistant–Phlebotomist (MA-P) credential required or eligibility to obtain prior to hire.

National phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, AMT, or equivalent) preferred.

Current BLS certification preferred.

Minimum one (1) year of recent hospital or acute care phlebotomy experience preferred.

Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.

Acute care hospital laboratory

Emergency Department specimen collection

Inpatient phlebotomy

Electronic Medical Record (Epic preferred)

Knowledge of laboratory specimen handling and processing
