RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes best practice in respiratory care through the application of evidence based Respiratory Protocols and works within the State of Hawaii Respiratory Licensing Program scope of practice.
  • Performs respiratory care for patients outside of the intensive care units.
  • Supports operations, program expansion, performance improvement and research.
  • May be assigned duties in other areas.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Essential: standing, walking, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, squatting, twisting body, seeing, hearing, speaking; reaching at and below shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motions; frequent gripping of an object.
  • Frequent: reaching above shoulder level, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
  • Occasional: sitting, kneeling, lifting usual weight of up to 50 pounds; pushing/pulling usual weight of up to 50 pounds.
  • Operates ventilators outside the intensive care units, a variety of equipment used to deliver treatment therapy, as well as blood gas and oxygen analyzers, syringes, computer, copier.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Subjected to noise, vibration, alarms
  • Exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases, and aerosol generating procedures (AGPs).

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

  • Current Hawaii State license as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support at the Healthcare Professional Level.

B. EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience in the performance of Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT) and Cardiopulmonary Exercise Tests (CPET) preferred.
