Job Summary
We are seeking an exceptionally skilled and forward-thinking CNC 5-Axis / Multi-Axis Mill Machinist to join our rapidly growing team. This is a pivotal, high-priority role tied directly to our immediate production expansion. You will primarily be responsible for setting up and running advanced 5-axis and 3-axis mills.
While you will initially focus on maximizing the production of our HAAS multi-axis milling centers, this position offers significant long-term growth as we expand our utilization of Doosan and Okuma platforms. The ideal candidate brings 5 or more years of precision milling experience, a deep understanding of complex setups, and the disciplined mindset required to excel under AS9100 aerospace quality standards.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Multi-Axis Setup & Operation: Independently program, edit, and set up complex fixtures and tooling for 5-Axis and 3-Axis CNC milling centers.
- Production Excellence: Main line production operation on HAAS machines, with future opportunities to setup and run our Doosan and Okuma machine tools as production expands.
- Quality Assurance & Verification: Perform critical first-article and tight-tolerance in-process inspections using advanced precision measuring instruments; accurately complete all quality inspection reports.
- Compliance & Lot Control: Meticulously maintain part traceability, heat lot tracking, and process control documentation in strict alignment with AS9100 procedures.
- Dynamic Problem Solving: Proactively diagnose and troubleshoot machining anomalies, tool wear patterns, rigid workholding challenges, and program edits directly at the controller to prevent scrap.
- Workspace Optimization: Keep your machining bays, tooling cabinets, and equipment immaculately clean and organized in accordance with shop 5S standards.
- Collaborative Support: Coordinate closely with our welding and turning departments to ensure smooth part routing and optimize overall throughput.
Qualifications and RequirementsTechnical Skills & Experience
- Experience: 5+ years of dedicated experience setting up and operating high-precision multi-axis CNC mills.
- Multi-Axis Mastery: Proven proficiency with true 5-axis or 3+2 milling operations is highly preferred; deep expertise in advanced 3-axis milling with complex setups is required.
- Machine Tools: Strong familiarity with HAAS controls is required for immediate deployment. Prior experience with, or a strong willingness to adapt to, Doosan and Okuma platforms is highly desirable.
- Technical Interpretation: Advanced ability to read and interpret complex aerospace-grade engineering blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and complex tool path layouts. Proficient in G-code editing at the machine.
- Precision Metrology: Mastery of standard inspection equipment (micrometers, dial indicators, vernier calipers, height gages, bore gages).
Compliance & Quality Requirements
- Quality Systems: Direct experience operating within an AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified manufacturing ecosystem.
- Traceability: High attention to detail regarding structural paperwork, router sheets, and compliance tracking.
Soft Skills & Physical Demands
- Problem Solving: Exceptional mechanical aptitude and analytical skills to resolve complex machining and surface finish issues independently.
- Growth Mindset: High adaptability and excitement toward learning new machine interfaces and scaling with our shop’s capabilities.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to safely lift and manipulate raw stock or heavy workholding fixtures up to [e.g., 50 lbs] and stand for long stretches of a production shift.
What We Offer
