Job Title: Machine Operator
Job Description
The Machine Operator sets up and operates band saw equipment to cut bar, tubing, metal plates, and extrusions, and supports production by deburring parts, staging materials, and monitoring material availability and quality. This role plays a key part in keeping machining operations running smoothly and ensuring parts meet quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate vertical and horizontal band saws to cut bar, tubing, metal plates, and extrusions according to specified dimensions and requirements.
- Set up band saws and related equipment to ensure accurate, efficient, and safe cutting operations.
- Deburr rough edges on cut parts and in-process parts using grinding equipment to achieve required finishes and tolerances.
- Inspect cut and deburred parts for quality, accuracy, and conformance to specifications using precision measuring tools.
- Stage and organize raw materials and workpieces for machinists to support efficient workflow and minimize downtime.
- Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and communicate upcoming needs to maintain adequate stock for scheduled production.
- Identify and report material shortages, quality issues, and equipment concerns to leadership in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area around band saws, grinding stations, and material staging areas.
- Follow established safety procedures and operational guidelines when operating cutting and grinding equipment.
- Collaborate with machinists and other team members to prioritize work, resolve production issues, and support on-time delivery.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience operating vertical and horizontal band saws to cut bar, tubing, metal plates, and extrusions.
- Proficiency in setting up band saw equipment for various materials and cut specifications.
- Ability to deburr parts using grinding equipment while maintaining dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
- Basic quality inspection skills, including checking parts for defects, accuracy, and conformance to specifications.
- Experience using precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances on cut and deburred parts.
- Ability to stage, organize, and handle raw materials safely and efficiently in a production environment.
- Strong communication skills to clearly report material shortages, quality concerns, and production issues to leadership.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, production orders, and safety procedures.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, high-quality work.

- Experience operating CNC band saw equipment.
- Grinding operations for metal parts and components.
- Prior experience working in a quality-focused manufacturing or machining environment.
- Familiarity with basic shop math and the ability to read measurements accurately.
- Comfort working in a machine shop environment that supports aerospace-related work.

Work Environment
You will work in a small machine shop environment located within a resource center that focuses heavily on aerospace-related production. The role involves frequent operation of vertical and horizontal band saws, grinding equipment, and precision measuring tools in a production setting. The environment is industrial and hands-on, with active cutting, grinding, and material handling throughout the shift. You will spend most of your time on the shop floor, moving between band saws, grinding stations, and material staging areas, and following standard shop safety practices and attire appropriate for a machining environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Camas, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
