Position: Mercury Marine Assembler I- Plastics- 2nd Shift
Position Overview
An Assembler is responsible for production‑assembly. Work is highly repetitive and requires following a prescribed routine or an obvious method of assembly. The operator runs machines to perform specific machining processes on molded plastic parts, after receiving complete training from the Equipment Programmer/Operator. Responsibilities include correctly placing parts on the machine fixture, securing them using the foot pedal or hand controls, deburring and/or gauging parts during machine cycles, selecting programs, changing fixtures, and running machines.
The operator must record process control data, read and interpret blueprint tolerances, use measurement tools properly, start up and shut down equipment, and operate tools independently.
Essential Functions
- Operator must be mechanically inclined with basic reading, writing and mathematics skills.
- Work in a team environment, follow direction, read work instructions, and prepare container tickets, including addition and subtraction of part counts.
- Organizational skills required to multitask; use hand tools, scales, and other process related equipment such as fixtures, assembly presses, and drill presses.
- Some hand tools require the operator to be ambidextrous.
- Must stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Moderate lifting up to 50 lbs; lifting assistance is provided when necessary.
- Fine hand manipulation, including pinching, pulling, and grasping of small to large parts.
- Full range of motion in hands, arms, legs, neck, and back to perform job duties.
- Job requires the use of chemicals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must have the ability to communicate in English; excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- The position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic reading and math skills.
- Normal to high manual dexterity skills.
- Ability to use all required hand tools, machinery, and variable gauges.
- Qualified and competent after a reasonable predetermined training period based on job complexity.
Working Conditions
The position normally requires exposure to a typical manufacturing area requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes/boots, and hearing protection. Work may occur in non‑temperature‑controlled areas with hot temperatures during summer months. Typical hazards include ergonomic issues, burns, bruises, cuts, heavy lifting, fumes, slippery floors, machine hazards, chemicals, gases, and body injuries.
Protective measures such as machine guards, ergonomic stretch programs, hazard documentation on work instructions, proper hand tools, environmental, health and safety training, and PPE are in place.
Pay Range
$18.00 – $21.57 per hour. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on job‑related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location.
