Build Something That's Yours. Lead It. Grow It. Own It.
We're not hiring employees. We're recruiting the next generation of Principal Owners — entrepreneurs ready to build, lead, and own an insurance agency right here in Southeast Michigan.
Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan was founded in 1949 by Michigan farmers, with a simple mission: Protecting the People of Michigan from the Risks of Everyday Life. Today, our 450 agents protect nearly 500,000 Michigan policyholders, and we're consistently ranked among the top 50 life insurance companies in America.
We're rapidly growing our footprint across Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Washtenaw, and Monroe counties, and we're looking for driven professionals who want more than a job. They want to build something of their own — backed by a Michigan-owned, Michigan-built brand that has earned its trust over three quarters of a century.
If that sounds like you, keep reading.
What You'll Own
As a Farm Bureau Insurance Agency Owner, you are the CEO of your own business. You're in business for yourself — but never by yourself.
- You own the book. Every client relationship is yours to grow, serve, and pass down.
- You build the team. Hire producers and service staff — your agency, your culture.
- You run a true multi-line business. Auto, home, life, farm, business, retirement, and our signature Lake Estate® product — one client, many products, a lifetime relationship.
- You become the trusted advisor in your community. Coach kids' teams, sit on local boards, become the neighbor your community calls first.
What We Invest in You — Our New Agent Development Plan (NADP 6.0)
We don't hand you a desk and a quota. We hand you a launchpad — six concrete forms of investment in your first five years.
1. Start-Up Fund — up to $48,000 to launch your agency.
2. Business Accelerator Fund — up to $10,000 to grow your book faster: $5,200 to reimburse your first licensed staff hire, plus $4,800 toward our B-File operating system.
3. Office Expense Reimbursement — up to 60 months. Monthly reimbursement (up to $1,500/month) to offset office space, staffing, internet, and phones — scaled to your book size.
4. The 2.0x Commission Multiplier. For your first 18 months under the New Agent Contract, every dollar of new commission you earn is matched 2-to-1. Write $1,000 in new commission, take home $3,000. After month 18, the multiplier program continues for up to five years and scales with your production benchmarks.
5. Agent for Change Grant — up to $6,000 to invest in your community through our shared mission of eliminating childhood hunger in Michigan.
6. Mentor Program. You're assigned a successful agent as a dedicated mentor — your first call for everything from sales strategy to agency management to business planning, for the duration of your NADP contract. Add to that the ongoing partnership of your regional Managing Partners.
On top of NADP, you also earn:
- Residual income — every time you write a policy you get paid, and every time it renews you get paid again
- Monthly and annual new-business bonuses, marketing expense reimbursement, and a P/C Profitability Bonus tied to your loss ratio
- Enhanced commission rates (10% higher than base) once your P/C book reaches $2.5M
- Group health, vision, and dental benefit plans available
Recognition & travel incentives:
- Marketing Convention in Grand Rapids or Traverse City each February
- Multi-Line Sales Council — invite-only recognition gatherings
- All-American / Executive Club incentive trips — our 2026 All-American trip is Sydney, Australia (April 16–22)
