Job Summary:

The Billing Director oversees all billing operations to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant processing of invoices, payments, and reimbursements. This leadership role manages billing staff, develops efficient billing systems, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations. The ideal candidate combines strategic management with a deep understanding of revenue cycle processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise the billing department, ensuring efficient and accurate billing operations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain billing policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Oversee revenue cycle management, including charge capture, claims submission, payment posting, and denial management.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement in billing and collections.
  • Ensure compliance with all billing regulations, payer requirements, and privacy laws (HIPAA).
  • Coordinate with finance, compliance, and clinical departments to improve billing accuracy and revenue recovery.
  • Train and mentor billing team members; provide performance evaluations and feedback.
  • Prepare monthly billing and collection reports for senior leadership.
  • Resolve complex billing issues and escalate when necessary.
  • Manage vendor relationships with billing software and clearinghouses.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in medical billing, revenue cycle management, or healthcare finance.
  • 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, insurance guidelines, and compliance standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth).
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
