Description Join our Team The Lino Lakes Fire Department is accepting applications for part-time Firefighters (up to 53 hours per week). We are looking for experienced Firefighters that are licensed or eligible for licensure by the Minnesota Board of Firefighter Training and Education (MBFTE), International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Firefighter II, Hazmat Operations, Minnesota Emergency Medical Technician. This position does not have a response area requirement for call back. Part time firefighters fill shifts 7 days a week from 0600-1800 at Lino Lakes Fire Station #1 or Lino Lakes Fire Station #2. The City of Lino Lakes (pop. 21,399) is a growing outer ring suburb only 20 minutes from St. Paul and Minneapolis. The city has direct access to numerous parks, trails, and other outdoor activities. The Fire Department is strongly supported by the community and fosters this relationship by protecting life and property through fire suppression, medical aid, public education, inspections, and other fire prevention duties. POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: Firefighter REPORTS TO: Assistant Chief of Operations DEPARTMENT: Fire Department STATUS: Part-Time/Non-Exempt Position Summary The part-time Firefighter position is responsible for protecting life and property from hazards of fire and other emergencies. This position includes applying fire suppression methods to control and stop damage, saving lives through rescue from fire or other hazardous environments, performing safety inspections, providing public fire safety education, responding to emergency calls and provides efficient and immediate care to the ill and injured; responds to other types of emergencies and disasters that may occur in the community; may be required to assist neighboring communities, as assigned; and is responsible to routine fire station duties including cleaning, maintaining and repairing property and equipment. Serves under the direction of the Fire Chief and Assistant Chief of Operations and other Fire Department supervisors. Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Maintain effective relations with internal and external customers. - Initiate and participate in community engagement activities to continue positive community relationships - Effectively adapt communication style to the audience, listen carefully, use respectful language and tone, and use appropriate interpersonal and rapport-building strategies to diffuse situations. - Participate in citywide training to strengthen interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. - Provide exceptional customer service to Lino Lakes residents, business owners, and visitors. - Demonstrate a complete understanding of - and respect for - the diversity of the community, co-workers, and supervisors, including individuals with disabilities or whose first language may not be English. - Respond to fire alarms and other emergency calls, extinguish or control fires, or other hazards as a member of a team, under the supervision of a superior officer within the fire division’s chain of command. - Select, drag, lift, and carry hose and nozzle depending on the type and size of the fire, and apply a stream of water or chemicals onto a fire. - Position, raise, and climb ladders to access upper levels of buildings or rescue individuals from burning structures and emergencies. - Create openings in buildings for ventilation or entrance using an ax, sledgehammer, crowbar, power saw, or power equipment. - Protect property from water and smoke using positive or negative pressure ventilation, waterproof salvage covers, and property removal. - Administer emergency medical care to injured persons and those overcome by fire and smoke. - Communicate during emergencies calmly, precisely, and articulately, using portable two-way radios or person-to-person voice communications. - Wear and use appropriate protective clothing and equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). - Respond to calls for service as required by division’s policy/regulations during regular working hours. - Maintain fire apparatus, equipment, stations, and grounds as part of a team, following department procedures. - Inspect, maintain, and repair all firefighting and safety equipment as necessary. - Conduct tests on equipment as required. - Complete proper checklists, maintain appropriate maintenance records, and report damaged or improperly functioning equipment. - Attend regular and assigned training sessions to maintain and upgrade firefighting skills. - Participate in drills, demonstrations, and courses in hydraulics, pump operation and maintenance, emergency medical procedures, fire prevention, and rescue and firefighting techniques. - Perform as driver/operator of fire apparatus. - Drive and operate firefighting vehicles and equipment safely and properly, following department procedures and regulations. - Maintain vehicle and equipment in safe operational condition according to division's procedures. - Respond t…
