Position: Mobile Diesel Mechanic II Variable Shift
Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and various duty tasks in a mobile/field environment. They will perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher and will continue to learn advanced mechanical and diagnostic skills.
A successful Technician complies with all company policies and achieves high‑level performance metrics.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling, air‑conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, gas and diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems and determine the relevance of information to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on a company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate a company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on repair orders using a company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and meet most standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for approvals on repair estimates and discussion of repair order findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field, or a higher degree or related certification with 5 years’ experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Must successfully complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical.
- A current and valid DOT medical card with at least four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; otherwise a DOT physical is required.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid driver’s license; candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
