Diesel Technician Apprentice

Position Summary

At Republic Services, Technicians play a critical role in maintaining the performance and quality of our fleet. A Technician performs routine and preventive maintenance on diesel and non‑diesel equipment and trucks. The Technician Apprenticeship program will train an entry‑level technician over a two‑year period in the following:

• Electrical diagnosis of starting & charging systems.
• Air conditioning & heating component identification & inspection.
• Wheel end assembly component identification & inspection.
• Air system component identification & inspection.
• Air brakes component identification & inspection.
• Hydraulics component identification and inspection.
• Truck preventative maintenance.

Apprentice Training Experience

Republic Services Technical Institute offers a unique learning and development environment in which employees will gain on‑the‑job work experience while completing their technician education.

Over the two (2) years of the apprenticeship, training will begin with nine (9) weeks of company‑paid training at the Republic Services Technical Institute in Dallas, Texas. Successful graduates will then continue with an additional twenty‑two (22) months of on‑the‑job training that includes mentorship and virtual instructor‑led technical content while working toward Apprentice certification as a Republic Services entry‑level Diesel Mechanic. Accelerated completion can lead to promotion to a Level C Technician.

Upon placement in a business unit nationwide, apprentices receive direct supervision from a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Manager and acquire hands‑on experience in routine preventive maintenance, tire work, wheel end components, mechanical skills, hydraulics and electrical systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Commitment to completing the two‑year apprenticeship program.
• Logical problem‑solver with interest in engineering and technology.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends or holidays.
• Willingness to uphold Republic Services values, including safety, ethics and respect.
• Must be willing to travel to and live in Dallas, Texas for a nine‑week in‑person training period.

Training Starts 1 June 2026 in Dallas, TX for 9 weeks.

Permanent shop assignment in Fort Wayne, IN.

Pay increase after graduation, with additional increases for completing 500/1,000 hours and promotion to Tech C. Boots, uniform and PPE provided; tools and toolbox provided.
