Position Summary

Orion is seeking experienced Carpenters to join our team in Charleston, South Carolina. This position plays a critical role in supporting marine and heavy civil construction projects through the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of concrete forms, structural framing, and other temporary and permanent construction elements.

The Carpenter will work alongside Superintendents, Foremen, Crane Operators, Laborers, Boat Captains, and other skilled craft professionals to safely and efficiently complete marine construction projects.

What You'll Do

  • Construct, erect, install, and repair concrete forms and wooden structures
  • Interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, and field layouts
  • Lay out foundations, building lines, anchor bolts, grades, and elevations
  • Build and install wood and metal framing systems
  • Assist with concrete formwork, pours, and finishing activities
  • Receive, unload, and organize construction materials and supplies
  • Perform inspections and minor repairs to existing structures
  • Maintain and secure assigned carpentry tools and equipment
  • Work closely with field leadership and craft personnel to ensure successful project completion
  • Participate in Orion's Safety and Environmental programs
  • Follow all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements

Preferred Experience

Successful candidates will possess experience in one or more of the following:

  • Marine construction
  • Heavy civil construction
  • Bridge construction
  • Concrete formwork
  • Reinforced concrete structures
  • Industrial construction
  • Waterfront construction
  • Transportation infrastructure projects

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of carpentry experience
  • Experience with concrete form systems and reinforced concrete construction
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Working knowledge of carpentry tools and equipment
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew
  • Reliable transportation and dependable attendance

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Climb ladders, scaffolding, barges, and marine access structures
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Stand, kneel, squat, bend, and perform repetitive physical activities throughout the workday
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
