Position Summary

This is a daytime Veterinary Technician position that combines both wellness and emergency medicine. Technicians in this role assist with routine appointments, surgical and dental procedures, hospitalized patients, and emergency cases. The ideal candidate enjoys variety, works well under pressure, and is passionate about providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate nursing care to all patients
  • Perform patient intake, obtain medical histories, weights, vital signs, and assist with examinations
  • Perform emergency triage and monitor hospitalized patients throughout the day
  • Collect diagnostic samples including blood, urine, and other laboratory specimens
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing, radiographs, blood pressure measurements, cystocentesis, and other technician duties within scope of practice
  • Place and maintain intravenous (IV) catheters and collect blood samples
  • Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian
  • Prepare patients, equipment, and surgical suites for procedures
  • Monitor anesthesia before, during, and after surgical procedures to ensure patient safety
  • Perform professional dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, charting, and assisting with dental radiographs and dental procedures
  • Assist veterinarians during surgical, dental, wellness, and emergency procedures
  • Safely restrain patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Accurately maintain medical records and complete patient documentation in a timely manner
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients regarding patient care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
  • Monitor patient status and promptly report changes to the veterinarian
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the hospital, including exam rooms, treatment areas, surgery, laboratory, radiology, ICU, and kennels
  • Feed, medicate, and provide daily nursing care for hospitalized patients
  • Assist with patient admissions and discharges
  • Maintain inventory and restock supplies as needed
  • Work collaboratively with doctors, receptionists, assistants, and fellow technicians to provide outstanding patient care
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support hospital operations

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Veterinary Technician (general practice, emergency, or specialty experience preferred)
  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring required
  • Experience performing dental prophylaxis preferred
  • Proficiency in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, patient restraint, laboratory procedures, and radiology
  • Strong critical thinking and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and client service skills
  • Positive attitude with a strong team-oriented mindset
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Veterinary Technician certification/licensure preferred but not required (where applicable)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with assistance for larger patients
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout an active shift
  • Comfortable handling animals of all sizes and temperaments
  • Ability to work efficiently in a physically demanding and fast-paced hospital environment
