NORTHWEST INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Job Title: Landscaper

Reports to: Lead Landscaper

Dept. /Campus: Maintenance

Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: M20 Duty Days: 261

Primary Purpose:Performs semi-skilled labor duties that involve maintaining the grounds at various campuses, such as operating tractors, movers, trimming of trees/shrubs and other grounds maintenance as needed

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent

Valid Texas Driver's license

Minimum of one (1) year of lawn care and landscape maintenance, and installation experience

Ability to safely operate motorized grounds keeping equipment

Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance

Ability to follow instructions/directions

Ability to work in various types of weather

Ability to pick up trash and debris (paper, rocks, wood, etc.)

Ability to drive truck with gooseneck trailers/large trailers safely

Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms

Ability to use basic hand tools, power tools, and landscaping tools.

Ability to climb ladders & work at heights

Ability to operate gas powered landscaping equipment such as zero turn mowers, string trimmers, chain saws, and blowers

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Mow and detail all district grounds
  • Install landscape materials and supplies
  • Follow scheduled maintenance plan to care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds
  • Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities
  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
  • Safe operation and care of assigned service vehicle, tools and equipment
  • Help keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor
  • Read and understand procedure manuals, operating manuals, and assembly instructions
  • Travel to school district facilities and professional meetings as required
  • Follow the directions of the Department Head and the Landscaping Leadman.
  • Follow all the Board Policies and Facilities Policies of NISD.
  • Perform all duties as assigned

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, garden tools, small hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, grader, power mower, edger, hedge trimmer, blower, light truck, or van.

Working Conditions:Work with frequent interruptions

Maintain emotional control under stress

Position requires repetitive hand motions and occasional prolonged and irregular hours

Position requires frequent and prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, and sitting

Position requires the ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance

Exposure to extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, and wind

Exposure to dust, noise and vibration

Exposure to slippery and uneven surfaces

Working on ladders and at heights.
