The City of Huber Heights, Ohio, located just minutes from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and in proximity of the Dayton International Airport and the I-75/I-70 “Crossroads of America” interchange with a population of 43,590. The Police Division Communications
Center is comprised of 16 career Communication Officers and is recruiting candidates for the position of full-time Communications Officer. This position provides critical assistance to the public by answering and processing emergency (9-1-1) and non-emergency Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Services. This position is responsible for gathering information on nature and details of the call determining an appropriate response using an established protocol and providing first responder pre-arrival instructions and a short report of the conditions or incident to responding units.
This selection process will utilize a Lateral Entry and Entry Level hiring process. The City will be conducting oral interviews to establish an eligibility list to fill one immediate opening for the position of full-time Communications Officer. The process will begin with screening applicants for requisites and credentials. Applicants to be considered to continue in the process will undergo an oral interview(s); dates for oral interview(s) are yet to be determined.
To apply, the applicant must be 18 years old, and have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. In order to meet the requisites of lateral entry, applicants must have at least one year of experience as a public safety dispatcher in a law enforcement or fire agency and have basic computer skills. Entry level applicants must have at least two years of experience involving substantial public contact and office clerical duties utilizing strong typing and listening skills, and/or two years of public safety experience in law enforcement or fire agency preferred.
Prior to appointment, the candidate must submit and successfully pass an extensive background investigation, truth verification test, pre-employment drug screen, physical, audiology exam and psychological examination. Upon hire, candidates must obtain certifications for CPR, TTY and Leads. Pending final legislative approval, salary range for this position will be $51,750.40 to $74,776.00 DOQ for lateral entry.
