Finance & Operations Manager
Retta Jane is a small, design-led lifestyle company opening this fall in Clayton — an interior design practice, a boutique, and a wine bar and design library, all under one roof. We’re growing quickly, and we’re looking for the person who keeps the day-to-day running clean behind the scenes.
This is the financial and operational engine of the business. You’ll work alongside our fractional CFO and tax accountant — they set strategy and handle the heavy filings — but this is more than a bookkeeping seat. We’re looking for someone who understands the full financial picture well enough to keep an eye on it: to know how the numbers fit together, notice when something’s drifting, and raise it before it becomes a problem. If you know QuickBooks like the back of your hand and you’re as comfortable with operations as you are with a balance sheet, we’d love to meet you.
WHAT YOU’LL OWN
- Client invoicing — especially for our interior design practice — and managing receivables so cash flows in steadily and on time
- Accounts payable: vendor bills paid accurately and on schedule
- Running payroll through Gusto and keeping it accurate
- Tracking and filing sales tax across our retail, hospitality, and design operations, working from the framework our accountant sets
- Pushing client and wholesale orders through, and tracking them start to finish so nothing slips
- Keeping QuickBooks current, clean, and reconciled
- Coordinating the logistics that keep product moving — deliveries, vendors, purchase orders
- Watching how the business is performing against budget, and flagging what needs attention
- Feeding clean, organized numbers up to our CFO and tax team, and understanding the story they tell
WHO YOU ARE
You might be a great fit if you have several years of full-charge bookkeeping experience, you’re QuickBooks-fluent and numbers-confident, and you’re deeply organized — the kind of person who owns outcomes without being chased. You understand more than data entry: you grasp how a small business actually runs, and you care about getting it right. Experience with Gusto, Shopify, or sales-tax filing is a real plus. A love of small, beautiful, design-minded businesses is another.
ROOM TO GROW
This role starts at roughly 30 hours per week, but it’s built to grow. As we open the store and new revenue streams come online, there’s real room for this position to expand — in hours, in scope, and in responsibility — for the right person who wants to grow alongside us.
THE DETAILS
Approximately 30 hours per week to start, with an immediate start. $50,000/year (about $32/hour). Remote or in our Clayton office — whatever works for your life. Flexible hours that fit your schedule.
