Security Officer: Architect of Campus Safety and Community Trust
Location: District-Wide Deployment / Assigned School Sites
Status: 12-Month Operation (260-Day Work Calendar) | Support Staff | Non-Exempt (FLSA)
Work Schedule: 8 Hours Per Day (Shifts vary; includes alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, and extracurricular events)

Salary & Compensation
- Hourly Salary Range: $20.00 to $21.65 per hour.
- Placement within the range is determined by the Board of Education support staff salary schedule, factoring in previous relevant public safety, military, or school security experience.
Role Summary
The Security Officer provides comprehensive security services across all district campuses, facilities, grounds, and parking lots. Reporting directly to the Building Administrator and Director of Safety, this position is responsible for monitoring foot and vehicle traffic, screening visitors, diffusing conflicts, and responding to emergency situations. This role requires close cooperation with local law enforcement, meticulous incident reporting, and the flexibility to work non-school hours and extracurricular activities.
Why You'll Succeed (Qualifications)
- Age Requirement: Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Licensed Professional: Possess, or have the immediate ability to obtain, a valid St. Louis County Police Security License (Private Security Officer Commission).
- Education & Credentials: High school diploma or its equivalent required. Must hold or obtain CPR Certification and Mace Certification.
- Mobility & Transit: Valid driver's license with a satisfactory, clean driving record.
- The Relational Guard: Outstanding human relations skills with a strong desire to work constructively with a diverse public, staff, and student body.
- Sector Context: Previous security experience in a public school or youth-focused setting is highly preferred.
Your Impact (Key Duties)
- Proactive Campus Patrols: Monitor, walk, and patrol school buildings, grounds, and parking lots to deter, detect, and stop any unlawful or inappropriate activities during and after school hours.
- Access Control & Visitor Screening: Observe and screen all campus visitors to ensure proper authorization, strictly controlling access to protect staff and students from unauthorized individuals or vehicles.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting: Respond to disruptions, conduct preliminary investigations, and compose highly detailed, written incident reports, activity logs, and safety records.
- Emergency Mitigation: Partner closely with school administrators, nursing staff, and local law enforcement officials to quickly manage and mitigate emergency situations.
- Positive Relationship Building: Actively engage with students and the public to promote a community-policing model, enforcing school board policies and discipline guidelines with fairness and equity.
- Event & Shift Flexibility: Provide safety presence at assigned extracurricular sports, arts, or community activities. Remain on-call via pager/radio and work alternate shifts including holidays or weekends as scheduled.

The Logistics of Your Success
- Classification: Support Staff | 12-Month Year-Round Position.
- Work Environment: Active movement between climate-controlled indoor offices and various hot, cold, or wet outdoor weather conditions.
- Physical Readiness: Must be in satisfactory physical condition. Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; use physical agility and strength to defend self or detain individuals using force if necessary. Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Technical Agility: Manual dexterity to operate personal computers, multi-line office phones, copiers, two-way transistor radios, and security locks/keys.
