The Position
The East Bay Regional Park District is currently recruiting for an Equipment Mechanic, with the current vacancy located at the South County Corporation Yard in Castro Valley, CA; however, candidates should be aware that future vacancies may occur at other District facilities throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties. This position performs skilled journey-level mechanical work involving the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, modification, and repair of a wide range of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, heavy equipment, construction machinery, and specialized park operations equipment. The Equipment Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance and emergency field repairs, fabricating and modifying equipment components, conducting BIT, smog, and opacity inspections, and maintaining accurate maintenance and repair records. The hiring pools established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.

Essential Functions
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Performs a variety of complex and technical work in the inspection, overhaul, maintenance, and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, machinery, and power and construction equipment
- Performs repairs and maintenance on public safety vehicles including motorcycles, ATVs/UTVs, armored vehicle, and related public safety vehicles
- Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, overhauls, and installs motors, transmissions, differentials, steering mechanisms, pumps, vacuum boosters, air brake systems, and running gears
- Inspects, installs, repairs, and adjusts parts, such as clutches, brakes, bearings, pistons, rings, rods, timing gears, oil and fuel pumps, filter units, superchargers, and ignition components
