Job Summary

This position is designed to prepare high school students for careers in healthcare by bringing teachers with real-world clinical experience into the classroom. An applicable candidate will hold appropriate licensure or certification aligned with Tennessee's Health Science 6–12 endorsement requirements.

What you will do

  • Deliver engaging instruction in health science courses aligned to Tennessee CTE standards.
  • Develop lesson plans using lectures, hands‑on activities, technology, and clinical simulations.
  • Assess student learning through projects, exams, and performance‑based evaluations.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and foster a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with school staff to support student success and career readiness.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and student organizations.
  • Support students in exploring healthcare careers and postsecondary pathways.

Education Qualifications

  • Postsecondary certificate or diploma related to a healthcare license, registration, or certification – required

Experience Qualifications

  • 3 years of relevant clinical experience within the last 5 years or
  • 5 years of relevant clinical experience within the last 10 years or
  • 2 years of relevant clinical experience and a technical school certificate or
  • 1 year of relevant clinical experience within the last 10 years and an Associate’s degree in a healthcare‑related field or
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a healthcare‑related field.
  • Examples of Qualifying Experience: Athletic Trainer, Audiologist, Chiropractor, Clinical Perfusionist, Registered Dental Assistant, Dental Hygienist, Dentist, Dietitian, Licensed Practical Nurse, Medical Laboratory Technician, Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Optometrist, Paramedic, Pharmacist, Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Physician, Physician's Assistant, Podiatrist, Radiology Technician, Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Speech Therapist, Veterinarian.
  • Examples of Non‑Qualifying Experience: Certified Dental Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Ophthalmic Technician, Personal Trainer, Phlebotomist, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Responder.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid healthcare license or certification issued by a state board of health (TN or other state) aligned to qualifying experience – required or
  • National certification verified by an accredited licensure agency (e.g., ARRT, ACSM, etc.) aligned to qualifying experience – required

Equivalency

Starting At: $53,610.04

Salary

Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference.
