About the Role
As an Expert Automotive Technician at our off-road specialty shop, you will be a key contributor to delivering exceptional repair quality and technical expertise across a wide range of vehicles. This is a hands-on, high-demand position where no two days are the same. You'll work alongside a skilled team in a shop environment that keeps you busy, challenged, and growing professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and drivetrain issues across trucks, Jeeps, SUVs, and 4x4 vehicles using industry-standard diagnostic tools and equipment
- Execute welding tasks including fabrication, repairs, and custom modifications to vehicle frames, suspension components, and accessories
- Perform gear and drivetrain services including differential rebuilds, axle repairs, transfer case overhauls, and gear ratio changes
- Install and configure off-road upgrades such as lift kits, suspension systems, skid plates, bumpers, winches, and lighting systems
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections and communicate findings clearly to service advisors and customers
- Maintain accurate and detailed repair documentation, including parts used, labor performed, and diagnostic results
- Adhere to all safety protocols and shop standards to ensure a safe and efficient work environment
- Collaborate with team members to manage workflow, meet deadlines, and uphold the shop's reputation for quality craftsmanship
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as an Automotive Diagnostic Technician, with a strong focus on trucks, Jeeps, or 4x4 vehicles
- Demonstrated proficiency in welding (MIG, TIG, or stick) with the ability to perform structural and fabrication work
- Extensive knowledge of gear systems, differentials, axles, and drivetrain components
- Experience performing diagnostics using OBD-II scanners and other automotive diagnostic equipment
- Ability to read and interpret technical service manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair documentation
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Certification (one or more certifications strongly preferred)
- Experience with off-road vehicle builds, custom fabrication, or aftermarket parts installation
- Familiarity with 4WD systems, locking differentials, and suspension lift systems
- Prior experience in a specialty or performance automotive shop environment
Technical Skills
- Welding: MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding for automotive fabrication and repair
- Drivetrain & Gear Systems: Differential rebuilds, transfer cases, axle repair, gear ratio changes
- Diagnostics: OBD-II systems, scan tools, electrical diagnostics
- Suspension Systems: Lift kits, leveling kits, coilovers, shocks, and off-road suspension components
- General Repair: Brakes, steering, engine, and transmission maintenance and repair
- Tools & Equipment: Proficiency with standard and specialty hand tools, torque equipment, and shop machinery
Compensation
This position offers a competitive hourly wage of $35 – $48 per flag hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. After 90 days, a company paid health insurance through Baylor Scott & White is available along with a corporate Hidden Falls membership and paid holidays. After 1 year of employment, 401k with matching up to 5% and paid vacation kicks in.
