We currently have openings for Phlebotomists on our Mobile Collections and donor center teams. Our Mobile Collections teams travel to different locations for blood drives, providing a unique opportunity to connect with different donors daily. Our Donor Center teams are located throughout North, Central and East Texas. Donor Center team members have an opportunity to build relationships with regular donors who live and/or work near their donor center.

The Life of a Phlebotomist

What does a Carter BloodCare Phlebotomist do?

  • Personally connect with donors, listen to their stories, and help them understand the impact of their donation.
  • Collaborate with your teammates to create a friendly environment so our volunteer donors feel comfortable returning and encouraging their friends/family to donate
  • Be detail-oriented all day, every day. This ensures that the blood you collect meets regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused.
  • Work with your team to move, set up, and take down equipment at mobile blood drives.

Training Schedule

During the training, which can last up to nine weeks, the days and hours will vary depending on mobile drives or Donor Centers' hours and may include early mornings, late nights, and weekends.

Standard Schedule After Training

To best meet the needs of our donors and the community, team members work a variable schedule which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Schedules are provided 3 weeks in advance.

Location

  • Mobile Collections: Arrive in Bedford, TX each day and ride out to the designated blood drive(s)
  • Donor Centers: Designated site within North, Central or East Texas

Job Type: Full-Time (part-time opportunities may be available after training)

What are the required qualifications?

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months of general work experience OR comparable education in the medical field, such as an internship or externship.
  • Customer service experience

What are the preferred qualifications?

  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills
  • Motivated to become a designated van or CDL driver through company-sponsored programs

What are the physical & mental requirements?

  • Ability to move about the work area to handle donors and access equipment, including standing, sitting, walking, stooping and working in confined spaces and narrow aisles
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs/steps to enter and exit the transport vehicles as well as the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend in order to set up blood collection equipment and access the equipment during use
  • Must be able to communicate with donors in order to obtain medical history and monitor the donor during donation. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Ability to move and set up the blood collection equipment/supplies weighing up to 25 pounds daily and partner carry all items over 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds; as well as periodically assist donors who are experiencing a reaction (Donor Center Phlebotomists)
  • Ability to move and set up blood collection equipment/supplies weighing up to 25 pounds daily and regularly partner carry all items over 25 pounds and up to 120 pounds, as well as periodically assist donors who are experiencing a reaction (Mobile Collections Phlebotomists)
  • Frequently load and unload vehicles, may be required to daily push carts/dollies weighing up to approximately 250 pounds; handling many types of equipment and cases, and perform these functions in all types of weather conditions, including adverse weather conditions (Mobile Collections Phlebotomists)
  • Flexibility to work irregular shifts, long hours, and adapt to frequent schedule changes
  • Exposed to potentially infectious blood and blood products on a daily basis
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, apply common sense in performing job, ability to understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, and ability to express or exchange ideas by communicating professionally with others through the spoken word, email, text, or written report
