P.S. 297K is seeking a dynamic Speech-Language Pathologist to join our AIMs (Autism Intervention and Management Services) program in a full-time, embedded classroom role. This is not a traditional pull-out SLP position. The SLP in this role functions as a co-teacher, working alongside the classroom teacher full-time within a dedicated AIMs classroom serving six students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Communication and language support is woven directly into the fabric of the school day — across instruction, transitions, routines, and social interactions — rather than delivered in isolation. This is an exceptional opportunity for an SLP who wants to go beyond the therapy room and make a deep, sustained impact on a small group of students.
At P.S. 297, we believe every child deserves a school that sees them fully. We are a small, inclusive K–5 community school in Brooklyn committed to creating a warm, rigorous environment where students with diverse learning needs thrive alongside their peers. Our school is distinguished by intentionally small class sizes, school-wide Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) model, robust counseling and social-emotional support services, and a rich program of enrichment opportunities in the arts, sciences, debate, and culinary arts.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve full-time within the AIMs classroom alongside the lead teacher, integrating speech and language support into all aspects of the school day
- Provide direct, embedded communication and language intervention for six students with ASD across academic instruction, social routines, and daily transitions
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals related to communication, language, social pragmatics, AAC, and functional communication
- Collaborate daily with the classroom teacher to plan and deliver instruction that integrates communication targets naturally into all subject areas and routines
- Partner with paraprofessionals, special education staff, and related service providers to ensure a cohesive, consistent approach to each student's support
- Lead and participate in IEP meetings, and communicate regularly with families about student progress and strategies to reinforce communication skills at home
- Maintain accurate records, progress notes, and documentation in compliance with NYC DOE and IDEA requirements

- NYS License in Speech-Language Pathology required
- Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder preferred
- Familiarity with AAC systems, ABA-informed strategies, and social communication intervention preferred

- Familiarity with IEP development and NYC DOE processes a plus
