Job Opening:

The Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of Water Supply Protection, seeks applicants for a Maintenance Equipment Operator II (MEO II) - Wachusett/Sudbury Region to perform the following duties:

General Statement of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The Maintenance Equipment Operator II operates heavy or specialized equipment used in excavating, grading, and other activities to construct, maintain, and/or repair roadsides, parks, and other projects.

Detailed Statement of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains roads, parking lots, fields and forest through the operation and transportation of heavy or specialized equipment.
  • Operates equipment such as road graders, heavy and light trucks, front-end loaders, forklifts, backhoes, excavators, and farm tractors.
  • Assists in land maintenance using chain saws, brush cutters, cement mixers, compressors, pneumatic hammers, sprayers and chippers.
  • Maintain access to the roads in a watershed system to maintain the watershed for the operation of a drinking water supply.
  • Assist in construction projects such as installing septic system, constructing and maintaining building, roads and associated structures.
  • Assist in dam or dike maintenance through repairs of drainage structures, embankments and placing rip rap.
  • May exercise working supervision over 1-5 lower grade employees.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the use, care and maintenance of a wide variety of heavy and specialized road and logging equipment;
  • Knowledge to operate have or specialized road and logging equipment; knowledge to make emergency repairs to equipment knowledge of operation and maintenance of heavy or specialized equipment;
  • Knowledge of methods, practices and techniques used in the maintaining and operation of a water storage system; knowledge of crafts and labor force operations required in general maintenance and repair work;
  • Knowledge of planning and care of trees and similar forestry work in connection with watershed protection;
  • Knowledge of the care and maintenance of roads, and walkways;
  • Knowledge of excavation practices; knowledge of the use of equipment and vehicles as required in connection with the care and maintenance of a water storage system;
  • Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures used in the water storage system operations.
