Cy-Fair Fire Department is seeking Career Fire Fighters to join our growing team.
Objectives 1.01 The Cy-Fair Fire Department (CFFD) shall define the position, duties, and minimum requirements for each rank in the Department. Title: Firefighter Selection: Appointed by the Fire Chief Reports to: Captains and Lieutenants Positions Supervised: N/A Responsibilities 3.01 Essential Behavioral Expectations A. C. Maintain the physical and mental health necessary to perform assigned duties D. Physical Demands: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those that must be met or are encountered by a member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions. Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; personnel may be required to respond to emergency and public calls after hours including evenings and weekends. Adverse or potentially hazardous environments may be routinely present during training exercises and/or emergency response operations. Moderate to heavy lifting with protective clothing and SCBA may be required. The primary duties of the firefighter are performed in a work environment in which the personnel are subject to personal danger. Therefore, the following physical abilities are deemed essential:
Must be able to climb stairs without using your arms (to simulate carrying equipment) in full PPE (approx. 50lbs) Carry 25lb weights in each hand and walk 75 feet to simulate carrying saws Must be able to raise a 35’ extension ladder by pulling a halyard Must be able to maintain balance wearing full PPE (approx. 50lbs) when climbing ladders and on top of roofs Must be able to drag, maintain control and direct hose lines flowing water Must have a strong grip for holding tools and starting chainsaws Must be able to crawl in dark, hot, and smoky atmospheres without panicking Reasonable level of cardiovascular fitness Sufficient clarity of speech, hearing and other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the member to communicate effectively, including during emergency situations which may involve a high degree of noise; Sufficient vision and other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the member to effectively operate at a fire or related emergency scene; Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the member to operate equipment used in firefighting; Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the member to perform all duties involved in protecting life and property 3.02 Required Experience and/or Qualifications: A. All personnel must meet the following qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age Must attend training academy/orientation classes set forth by the Training Division and the Operations Division. B . Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge: Basic computer data entry and operate a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties Skills : Performs all duties related to fire rescue, including connecting and carrying fire hoses, carrying and setting up ladders, directing water on burning structures, vegetation, vehicles and other objects Use current methods to ventilate structures Rescue techniques used for persons trapped in vehicles, burning buildings and other places Delivers public fire and life safety education programs, tours, and lectures May be required to operate and drive emergency vehicles and equipment Performs salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, sweeping water and removing debris. Perform overhaul after a fire to ensure that fires will not rekindle, extend into unburned areas and that the fire is completely extinguished 3. Abilities: Manage multiple tasks in both an emergency and non-emergency situation.
