Incumbents in this position are responsible for performing a variety of routine building cleaning and custodial duties.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Keeps buildings and property in clean and orderly condition.
Performs routine maintenance activities.
Performs heavy cleaning duties.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuum floors.
Gathers and empties trash.
Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Data utilization: compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data according to a prescribed scheme or plan.
Human interaction: explain, demonstrate and clarify to co-workers and others within well established policies, procedures and standards. Follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from supervisors.
Equipment, machinery, tools and materials use: start, stop, operate and monitor equipment such as mops, brooms, carts, common hand and power tools, floor machines, and materials used in performing essential functions.
Verbal aptitude: utilize a wide variety of reference data and information such as work orders, operating instructions, schedules and procedures.
Mathematical aptitude: perform addition and subtraction. Functional reasoning: carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions. Routine work according to clearly prescribed standard practices, with some latitude for independent judgment.
Situational reasoning: exercise judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.
Environmental factors: tasks may expose to adverse conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, electric currents, toxic/poisonous agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.
Physical requirements: lift up to 50 pounds, push and pull over 100 pounds to perform custodial and cleaning duties such as picking up trash and pushing carts.
Sensory requirements: recognize and identify individual characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, odors and textures associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks to determine cleanliness.
Qualifications
One year of experience performing custodial work or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Qualifying experience must include knowledge of hard floor surface care, carpet care and cleaning, restroom care, general cleaning, and safety procedures. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push and pull over 100 pounds to perform custodial and cleaning duties. Ability to read, understand, and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to make minor repairs on cleaning equipment used in the performance of duties. Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
