The Field Manager & Refrigeration Systems is responsible for supporting refrigeration projects from initial bid development through system design, installation, startup, and ongoing service. This role bridges engineering, field operations, and customer support to ensure systems are designed accurately, installed correctly, and operate efficiently.
Accountabilities
During the proposal stage, the Field Manager plays a key role in technical evaluation and cost development
Review project specifications, drawings, and customer requirements to support accurate bid preparation
Assist in developing detailed budgets and cost estimates for bid proposals
Perform refrigeration load calculations and properly size equipment for pricing and system requirements
Identify and solicit pricing from vendors and subcontractors by issuing quote requests
Evaluate vendor quotes for compliance with project specifications and cost efficiency
Assist in conceptual system design, including refrigeration system layouts and equipment placement
Support the design of room layouts and preliminary system configurations for proposal submissions
Once a project is awarded, this role ensures technical accuracy and coordination across all phases
Engineering & Design
Size and select all refrigeration system components, including valves, piping, and controls, in accordance with project specifications
Develop comprehensive equipment lists, including all major and auxiliary components required for procurement
Review and finalize refrigeration system layout drawings to ensure constructability and efficiency
Review and approve piping layout drawings, ensuring proper flow, capacity, and compliance with standards
Evaluate engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements
Review and approve submittals prior to release to clients or contractors
Cross-Discipline Coordination
Collaborate with electrical and software engineering teams to align system design with control strategies and operational requirements
Ensure proper integration between mechanical systems and control systems
Training & Leadership
Provide technical training and mentorship to engineers and junior team members
Share best practices related to refrigeration system design, installation, and troubleshooting
Field Support & Installation
Provide technical guidance during system installation to ensure adherence to design and specifications
Support field teams with installation challenges and real-time problem solving
Conduct or assist with equipment startup and commissioning to verify proper system operation
Ensure systems are functioning safely, efficiently, and as designed
Service & Troubleshooting Support
Assist service personnel in diagnosing and resolving refrigeration system issues
Provide advanced troubleshooting support for complex mechanical or control-related problems
Recommend corrective actions and system improvements when needed
Customer Support
Serve as a technical resource for customers, addressing questions related to system design, performance, and operation
Provide ongoing support to ensure customer satisfaction and system reliability
Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Required Knowledge / Experience
10 years experience in industrial/commercial refrigeration systems
Experience in equipment sizing, piping design, and system layout
Familiarity with industry standards and codes (e.g., ASHRAE, IIAR)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Experience working with cross-functional teams (engineering, field, service)
Education
Bachelors in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or 10 years equivalent industry experience.
