About the Position
The Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training (KSCPOST) seeks to fill a part‑time investigator position located in Wichita, KS. The position is temporary and part‑time, with a schedule that alternates weekly between two days and three days in office, totaling no more than 40 hours in a 2‑week period.
Compensation
- Hourly Pay Range: $23.73 - $27.56 (may vary based on education, experience, or qualifications)
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough, independent, and complex investigations of alleged violations of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Act (KLETA) and related Kansas Administrative Regulations (KARs).
- Gather documents and reports, conduct in‑person and telephone interviews, preserve evidence, and author detailed written reports for presentation to the Commission.
- Present testimony and evidence to the Commission during hearings and court proceedings.
- Assist with miscellaneous projects and provide internal agency advice as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Required Qualifications
- Current certification as a Kansas law enforcement officer, or current/active certification in another U.S. state or as a federal law enforcement officer with the ability to obtain Kansas certification within 3 months of hire.
- Minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible experience as a full‑time law enforcement officer.
- Minimum of 3 years of increasingly responsible experience conducting complex investigations.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated in application and interview.
- Valid Kansas Driver’s License (minimal travel may be required).
- Ability to establish, maintain, and cultivate positive relationships with agency heads, Internal Affairs Units, investigators, and other criminal justice professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 or more years of increasingly responsible experience as a full‑time law enforcement officer.
- 5 or more years of increasingly responsible experience conducting complex investigations.
- Documented experience conducting internal affairs investigations.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Advanced executive training such as FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, or FBI-LEEDA Trilogy.
