The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital is a newly expanded, state-of-the-art 24-bed unit designed to provide the highest level of critical care for our most complex pediatric patients. This expansion enhances our ability to serve the community by offering cutting-edge technology, improved patient visibility, and optimized access to care.
With family-centered care as a priority, our unit includes an expanded family lounge with designated pods for respite, as well as private in-room bathrooms to better support families during their child's hospitalization. The modernized layout is designed to promote healing and well-being for both patients and caregivers in a calming, supportive environment.
As The Only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Centerin The Greater Charlotte Region, Our PICU Provides a Full Spectrum Of Advanced Critical Care Services, Including
- Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) & Aquadex
- Advanced pulmonary support(including all forms of invasive and non-invasive ventilation)
- Organ transplant
- Neurosurgical procedures
- Hematology-Oncology care
- Comprehensive trauma services
Our nurses benefit from ongoing professional development and gain expertise in managing a diverse range of critical conditions, including ARDS, COVID-19, RSV, hydrocephalus, seizures, sepsis, unstable or new CPAP/BiPAP patients, new tracheostomy care, trauma, transplant, orthopedic, neurosurgical cases, and gastrointestinal and endocrine diseases.
The staffing ratio is carefully adjusted based on acuity, with ideal assignments of 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1for the highest quality care. About This Location:
Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH) has taken the community to another level of service to provide care for the growing population of children in our region. At 247 beds, LCH is the largest children’s hospital between Atlanta and Washington DC. It serves high acuity patients as the flagship children’s hospital within the innovative Atrium Health and offers a full complement of over 125 pediatric subspecialists in over 30 different pediatric specialties. We have 4 pediatric hospitalist teams, a newly expanded 24 bed PICU and 20 bed Cardiac ICU, an 85-bed Level IV NICU, and an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation floor. Job Description
Responsible for the direct provision of patient care and for assisting the manager with daily operations to include but not limited to coordination of patient care/outcomes, allocation of human and fiscal resources, communications, patient throughput, program development and oversight, patient, physician and employee rounding, selection, development, and retention of staff, clinical supervision and performance appraisal, performance improvement activities, service recovery and compliance with regulatory agency requirements. Maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the population of patients served.
Essential Functions
- Supports the manager utilizing systematic approaches to enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing service administration and delivery of care in the department
- Assists with interview, selection, and supervision of nursing personnel in the department
- Assists with coordination of communication at regular intervals throughout shifts via staff meetings/huddles to exchange information/ promote dialogue with teammates
- Collaborates with manager to ensure understanding and compliance with federal and state laws, to include healthcare services and practice, while complying with all required regulations and policies
