Position Summary
Colorado Eye Consultants is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Phlebotomist / Clinical Administrative Assistant to join our team. This unique position plays an essential role in supporting patients with severe ocular surface disease through the collection and processing of blood for the preparation of autologous serum tears, a specialized treatment used in ophthalmology.
In addition to performing phlebotomy procedures, this individual will provide outstanding customer service while assisting with administrative and clinical support functions. The ideal candidate is personable, organized, dependable, and enjoys working closely with patients in a fast-paced medical environment.
Essential ResponsibilitiesPhlebotomy & Patient Care
- Perform venipuncture safely and efficiently to collect blood specimens for the preparation of autologous serum tears.
- Verify patient identity and ensure proper specimen labeling and handling.
- Maintain strict infection control and safety standards.
- Educate patients regarding the serum tear process and answer questions regarding treatment.
- Monitor patients during and after blood draws to ensure their comfort and safety.
- Coordinate specimen processing and shipping according to established protocols.
Administrative & Clinical Support
- Scan and accurately upload patient documentation into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Answer patient questions in person and by telephone in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner.
- Assist the clinical team with medication refill requests by processing documentation and coordinating provider review.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Schedule appointments and assist with patient coordination as needed.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and patients to ensure seamless care.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Previous phlebotomy experience.
- Current phlebotomy certification is required.
- Excellent venipuncture skills with a strong focus on patient comfort and safety.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records.
- Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy in a busy clinical setting.
- Preferred:
- Experience working in an ophthalmology or specialty medical practice.
- Knowledge of autologous serum tear therapy.
- Experience with medication refill workflows and medical documentation.
