Job Summary: Provide direct patient care under a plan of care developed by the supervising physical therapist. Make appropriate modifications to the treatment plan in accordance with the changes in the patient's status within the scope of the practice and with the appropriate consultation with the supervising physical therapist.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Carry out plan of care developed by physical therapist following the patient evaluation consisting of but not limited to: manual therapy, gait training, neuromuscular re-education, modalities and therapeutic exercise. Modifications to treatments in accordance with changes in patient status is expected.
- Document daily patient treatment information, submit appropriate daily charges, and gather necessary information to complete discharge summary when appropriate.
- Communicate with supervising physical therapist, physician or other health care professionals concerning patient progress.
- Assist with various cleaning duties within the clinic setting.
- Attend continuing education courses to maintain licensure and stay current in new treatment techniques.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
Work Experience:
- 2 years of experience in an Orthopedic PT setting preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: State Licensure required. Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice Physical Therapy in the State of Oklahoma.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to employ tact, diplomacy, and compassion with all types of people.
- Must possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills as well as conduct self in a professional and positive manner.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients and families.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Basic computer knowledge as needed for data input and reporting.
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a clinical outpatient setting.
- Work may involve frequent contact with patients, physicians, staff and the public.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.
- Requires normal physical strength to exert up to 100 pounds of force to push or pull as needed.
- Requires normal physical strength to lift or carry overhead up to 35 pounds as needed.
- Requires full range of body motion including bending, stooping and stretching when assisting and lifting patients or to access files and supplies.
- Requires normal concentration regarding complexity and timeliness of decision making.
- Requires normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information involved.
- Average visual acuity necessary to prepare or review documents or operate equipment.
- Ability to speak, frequently conveying detailed or important information or ideas accurately.
- Ability to hear normal speech, both in person and on the telephone.
