Pay Range: $80,000 - $95,000 annually

Staff Accountant:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our finance team at Protea Property Management in La Jolla. In this role, you will play a key part in managing day-to-day accounting operations, preparing accurate financial reports, reconciling property-level financials, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes for our growing portfolio of residential and commercial properties.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, experience in real estate or property management accounting, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will collaborate closely with property managers and senior leadership to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and insightful reporting that drives smart business decisions.
This position will report directly to the company’s Chief Financial Officer.
This is a full time, salaried position with our established company.
What You Will Do:
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
- Perform property-level reconciliations and support month-end and year-end close processes
- Analyze financial data and provide insights to property managers and senior leadership
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial audits
- Collaborate with the property management team on rent collections, expense tracking, and financial performance
- Support special projects and process improvements as needed such as financials for retail and construction accounting
Qualities and Skills You Will Need:
- Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in financial reporting and reconciliations
- Solid understanding of GAAP and real estate/property management accounting principles
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data
- Highly organized with strong time management and the ability to meet deadlines
- Proficiency with accounting software (Yardi preferred) and Microsoft Excel
- Collaborative team player who communicates effectively with property managers and leadership
- High integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality with sensitive financial information
- Proactive mindset with a continuous improvement approach to processes
