The Role

The Technical Operations Support Technician II position will report to the Technical Operations Manager and act as primary support for the autonomous vehicles in the field and at Outrider test sites. This position requires troubleshooting, mechanical, electrical and computer skills, attention to detail, and ability to learn in unstructured environments.

Duties Key Objectives

Support of Autonomous Vehicles

Monitor vehicle status and respond to AV kit and vehicle issues as they arise

Execute fault isolation and troubleshooting steps to determine containment of vehicle and AV kit issues

Perform maintenance and repairs with minimal direction

Working hours may vary

Continuous Improvement

Identify and document problems encountered while operating equipment or executing repairs

Contribute to documentation capturing procedures for fault isolation manuals and repair manuals

Participate in continuous improvement using Root Cause Analysis

Collaborate with engineers in design reviews

Safety

Comply with Outrider established safety rules, policies, and procedures

Understand and support customer site-specific rules, procedures, and other operational requirements, and interact with customer personnel as required

Identify safety concerns and assist in updates to mitigate the new risks

Communication and soft skills

Effectively communicate issues, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions

Effectively hand off issues that require escalation

Manage customer communications around current active issues

Other duties and responsibilities

Ability to travel regularly up to 25% and 50% for short periods of time (anywhere assets are deployed)

Contribute generally to the growth and success of the Company and the building of a vibrant culture focused on the responsible deployment of zero-emission autonomous vehicle technology

Required Qualifications

High school diploma

Valid drivers license with ability to drive bobtail yard truck

2 years relevant experience in electrical / mechanical troubleshooting and repair

Ability to identify and use mechanical tools

Ability to identify and use basic electrical tools (VMM, Crimp tools…)

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., climb step ladders and work at 10 feet high

Ability to work in tight spots (under vehicle, under cab, in cab)

Creative problem solver who thrives when presented with a challenge

Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

Good verbal and written communication skills

Familiar with vehicle subsystems (braking systems, steering, pneumatics, hydraulics and cabling…)

Able to diagnose vehicle mechanical issues

Ability to navigate and use Linux-based systems to perform basic operational tasks

Ideal Qualifications

2 years of experience performing electrical and mechanical repairs

4 years of experience as a technician

High level of familiarity with LINUX operating system, bash scripting, and system-based systems

Autonomous robotics and/or autonomous vehicle experience

Electric Powertrain / Electric vehicle knowledge and experience

Military vehicle/aircraft maintenance experience is highly desirable

Strong experience with technician support of electronic control systems, high voltage battery systems and low voltage systems.

The position requires walking, talking, seeing, hearing and other uses of the senses. Specific vision requirements include close vision. Occasional standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, etc., is also required of this position. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., as needed in support of operational tasks, equipment handling, or site activities, as well as climbing and navigating stairs or uneven surfaces when necessary.
