Environmental Scientist/Industrial Hygienist

~50% field / 50% remote

Apex is seeking an environmental professional with experience in industrial hygiene to perform asbestos, lead-paint, mold/moisture intrusion, exposure assessment, abatement monitoring, and related industrial hygiene and EHS compliance projects across Southern California.

Key Responsibilities

Perform asbestos, lead-based paint (LBP), and microbial/moisture intrusion assessments, along with abatement oversight, with an approximate 50/50 split between field and office work

Conduct safety and compliance assessments in accordance with regulatory standards and client requirements

Support additional environmental services through cross-training, including:

Exposure assessments

Workplace safety evaluations

Stormwater compliance inspections

Soil and groundwater sampling

Noise and air monitoring

Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) inspections

Execute work in alignment with project work plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and direction from project managers

Manage scheduling and logistics across all project phases, from coordination and fieldwork through reporting

Prepare clear, accurate, and technically sound client-ready reports using project-specific templates

Collaborate with internal teams to support project delivery and ongoing professional development

Maintain and proactively pursue relevant certifications, including 40-Hour HAZWOPER, CAC, and/or CSST

Qualifications

2+ years of professional experience conducting asbestos surveys and mold/moisture intrusion inspections as an AHERA-accredited inspector (in any state)

Current AHERA certification required

California Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) and/or Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Microbiology, or a related field
