Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Special Services

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree
  • Full Certification in Mild-Moderate Cross Cat., grades K-12
  • Full Certification at Elementary, or in other subject content area(s) between the grades of 7-12 (e.g. English, Math, Science, and/or Social Studies) preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality of information gained through the performance and location of the position
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Adequately prepares for student instruction by developing lessons which address a variety of learning modalities and include multiple activities
  • Uses intervention strategies and practices that maximize student growth
  • Recognizes behaviors and learning difficulties which could indicate the need for special assistance, develops alternative intervention plans for students, and implements strategies to address the special behavioral and learning need of students
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and the behavioral progress of all assigned students
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Knows and applies the IDEA standards and indicators and the IEP process
  • Complies with policy, procedures, regulations, and law
  • Instructs students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance of economic self-sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety and food preparation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Other duties as assigned
