About the Role

The Facilities Renovation Department is seeking a Senior Carpenter to develop and execute renovation projects. This role focuses on building and finishing work that complies with departmental standards and applicable building and fire codes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all construction and renovation duties in accordance with departmental standards and applicable codes to avoid violations of building or fire codes.
  • Construct walls by performing layout in accordance with plans or sketches, primarily with metal studs or wood framing, hanging drywall or other wall finishes, and finishing sheetrock.
  • Install suspended ceilings per plans or sketches.
  • Install ceiling tiles by cutting and kerfing as required.
  • Install accessories such as mirrors, handicapped bars, soap dispensers, towel cabinets, whiteboards, signs, etc.
  • Install door frames, doors, door locks, and all types of door hardware.
  • Demolish partitions, doors, frames, cabinets, ceilings, etc.
  • Move various types of materials around campus and or the job site.
  • Maintain the work area organized and keep the job site clean throughout the project.
  • Assist other trades—such as cabinet makers, painters, electricians, and trade helpers—in renovation projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: Two years of related experience with a technical or vocational degree, or a high school diploma or GED with four years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

  • Ability to plan, layout, and execute carpentry work of average difficulty.
  • Ability to work from sketches and blueprints.
  • Skills in using hand and power tools and equipment of the carpentry trade.
  • Knowledge of building materials and construction practices.
