SAFE SCHOOL CLASSROOM TEACHER (1.0 FTE), One Year Only position External Applicants only

Preference will be given to endorsements in Math level 3/4 or SPED.

Roosevelt Continuation School is looking for an excellent, kind, patient, and flexible teacher who is interested in working with at-risk students. Applicant must either have a current professional level Utah Secondary teaching license, a current professional level out-of-state educator license, or a current professional level Special Education License in order to qualify.

*No Associate/AEL's accepted as this position will not work with APPEL program*

Applicants qualifying with a regular education professional level license must be endorsed in one of the following content areas:

  • English
  • History or Social Studies Composite
  • -Math Level 2, 3 or 4
  • Any of the following Science endorsements: Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physical Science, Physics OR Science Core (6-8) Endorsement

Applicants qualifying with a special education professional level license must be endorsed in one of the following:

  • Mild/Moderate
  • Severe
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Team player with excellent public relation skills working positively with students, parents, staff, and assigned school teams at Roosevelt Campus
  • Ability to supervise classroom aides
  • Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Will work in the Secondary Safe School Classroom
  • May teach multiple subjects
  • Work with students, staff, and other School Teams on Progress to Graduation and Credit
  • Transitioning students as they return to their boundary schools. Helping with the implementation of Behavior and Treatment Plans so the students can be successful as they return back to their boundary school

Job Summary

Under the direction of the school principal, the classroom teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop the skills to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners and productive citizens. Teachers maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Teachers differentiate curriculum and use effective research-based methods of instruction. Implement Proficiency-Based Grading in Student Evaluations.

Essential Functions

  • Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE's Core Curriculum, and adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved learning activities.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child.
  • Utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction
  • Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
  • Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom through organization and appropriate discipline strategies.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Be familiar with and willing to implement Proficiency-Based Learning in evaluating students.
