Job Description:
Your role can range from a Cashier to Stocker, and even to a standby lead in scenarios where the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager are not present. You would assist in establishing and managing plan-o-grams and customer service programs. Other tasks would involve anything necessary to increase profitability and customer satisfaction, enhance teamwork, and protect company resources while minimizing losses.
Core Duties and Job Functions:
- Unload deliveries in a manner that follows the store's established procedures.
- Stick to the company's set processes for receiving, opening, and unpacking cartons and totes.
- Stock products efficiently, arrange them systematically on shelves and help in setting up attractive merchandise displays.
- Restock merchandise that was previously returned or recovered.
- Manage order zones and drop shipment categories, adhering to the ordering practices, as directed by the Store Manager.
- Assist in plan-o-gram implementation and maintenance.
- Help customers by finding the merchandise they are looking for.
- Keep the store environment clean and tidy by taking out trash and cardboard, dusting and mopping store floors, cleaning the restroom and stockroom.
- Extend a warm welcome to customers as they step into the store.
- Ensure the well-maintained register countertops and bags; implement register countertop plan-o-grams.
Tasks as Cashier:
- Operate cash register and flatbed scanner to itemize and total customer's purchase and bag the merchandise.
- Receive payment from the customer, provide change if necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness on the front end of the store and help set up sidewalk displays.
- Contribute towards keeping a clean, well-arranged store and ensuring a safe and secure working and shopping environment.
- Deliver superior customer service leadership.
- Follow company policies and procedures as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures manual, Employee Handbook, and company communications.
- Open and/or close store as directed by the Area Manager.
Tasks in Absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager:
- Approve and sign off refunds and overrides, count the register, make bank deposits.
- Assist in maintaining strict cashier accountability, key security, adherence to company security practices, and cash control procedures.
- Monitor cash levels and make appropriate cash withdrawals as directed by the Store Manager.
- Monitor store cameras for any unusual activities (customers and employees) if required.
- Supply cashiers with change if needed.
- Complete all required documentation and paperwork according to guidelines and deadlines as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficient in mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Understanding of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Ability to perform IBM cash register functions.
- Familiar with cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication skills.
- Good understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Capable of reading and following plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
Experience and Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent qualification along with six months of supervisory experience (or related experience/training) is preferred.
Working conditions:
- Frequent walking and standing
- Frequently bending, stooping, and kneeling to run check out station, stock merchandise and unload trucks can be expected. This might require you to push and/or pull roll-tainers for stocking merchandise
- Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, U-boats (six-wheel carts), and roll-tainers
- You will be required to frequently lift up to 40 pounds; occasionally, you might have to lift up to 55 pounds
- Occasional need to climb (using a step ladder) up to heights of six feet
- Will be working in a fast-paced environment with a moderate noise level
- Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions can be expected
- You might need to occasionally or regularly drive/provide own transportation to make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores.
