Sheet Metal Worker Maint

Under general supervision, the sheet metal worker fabricates, installs and maintains sheet metal equipment and fixtures such as machine guards, grease pans, shelves, lockers, tanks, ducts, metal roofing, ventilators, etc. with attention to knowing and using safe work practices.
Typical duties include selecting types of sheet metal or nonmetallic material, measuring and marking dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets, drilling holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets, installing metal sheets with supportive frameworks, fabricating, installing and maintaining in good repair the sheet-metal equipment and fixtures at worksites, planning and laying out all types of sheet-metal maintenance work from blueprints, models, or other specifications, setting up and operating all available types of sheet-metal working machines, fabricating or altering parts at work sites, maneuvering large sheet metal parts to be installed, anchoring the parts, fastening seams or joints by welding, bolting, riveting, or soldering, documenting service orders with actions and progress notes, following procedures, regulations and guidelines, diagnosing problems and determining how to correct them, communicating with customer relating to work performed, and performing other duties and special projects as assigned.
Typical qualifications include 2-3 years formal apprenticeship or equivalent experience in sheet metal, mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; measurement of dimensions; use and maintenance of own tools may be required; ability to manage material resources and time; ability to work safely; ability to follow directions, instructions, structured process and procedures, and to complete tasks; customer service skills to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests; communication skills to provide procedural and factual information, and to follow written and oral instructions; flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities, and to build effective working relationships with staff, customers and others; demonstrated organizational, problem-solving and common-sense skills; ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work priorities; ability to travel to various facilities, and to work independently and as a team.
Education requirements include a high school diploma or GED.
The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements: Valid Driver's License.
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance: maneuvering to and around equipment, bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching, climbing stepstools or ladders, lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work is performed at a customer's location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
