Chemistry Lab Supervisor - Academic Hospital

Whitecap Search Healthcare Partners is seeking a dynamic leader to oversee a high-volume hospital chemistry department, ensuring seamless operations and spearheading the implementation of new automated instrumentation.

Function

The successful candidate will lead a multi-shift environment, managing operations, staff, and the integration of new technologies.

Overview

• Oversees 12-15 direct reports across 3 shifts
• Responsible for full chemistry department operations
• Accountable for ensuring smooth handoffs between day and evening shifts
• Work schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm (flexibility required)
• Lead instrumentation upgrades and automation rollout
• Manage staffing optimization (per diem to full-time conversions)
• Act as primary escalation point for clinical, technical, and operational issues

Requirements

• NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license
• 4 years of clinical lab experience with at least 1 year in a leadership role
• Strong chemistry discipline expertise (core automation)
• Experience with instrument validation/implementation
• Knowledge of QA/QC and CAP/CLIA compliance
• Proficiency in staff scheduling and performance management
• Ability to manage shift coverage challenges and retention
• Comfortable in a hands-on, visible leadership role onsite
