Position: Occupational Therapist - Acute Care, Carolinas Medical Center, Full-time

Position Overview

Occupational Therapist in the Carolinas Medical Center acute care inpatient setting. Responsible for evaluating, planning, directing, and administering OT programs to restore function, prevent disability, and promote maximum independence for medically complex patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct therapy services to patients 7 days a week, including holidays.
  • Evaluate patients and select appropriate assessment techniques to establish individualized care plans including modalities, procedures, exercise programs, therapeutic groups, and education.
  • Gather and interpret data from the medical record, physician reports, patients, and families.
  • Communicate evaluation findings and progress to physicians, referral sources, and other clinical staff; coordinate treatment schedules and discharge planning; recommend solutions to patient care problems.
  • Document evaluations, tests, progress notes, daily treatment notes, attendance records, patient/family education, outcomes, discharge notes, and charges.
  • Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehab Technicians, volunteers, and students.

Physical Requirements

Hearing (corrected) and vision (corrected) adequate for oral/aural communication and reading. Intelligible speech and appropriate language/cognitive skills necessary. Sitting, standing, and walking required throughout the day. Often climb stairs, kneel, twist, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach overhead. Lifting of patients, equipment, or supplies up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally; lateral transfer of patients up to 100 pounds rarely.

Ability to demonstrate exercises and activities to patients/caregivers.

Education, Experience, & Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and a valid state OT license required. BLS required per policy guidelines.
