Secondary Theology Teacher

Mount Mercy Academy seeks an experienced high school Theology teacher for grades 9-12. The Theology curriculum at Mount Mercy Academy is designed to provide education not only on the doctrines of the Catholic faith but also to develop the practice of faith through lived experience.

Theology I - Catholic Christian Tradition/Intro to Catherine McAuley/Service Component

Theology II - Sacred Scriptures/Service Component

Theology III - Christian Spiritual Formation/Service Component

Theology IV - Catholic Social Teaching/World Religions/Death and Dying/Service Component

Core Responsibilities

• Instruction and Curriculum: Develop and execute age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with the institution's educational philosophy and doctrinal standards. Cover foundational topics such as scripture study, church history, morality, and social justice.
• Faith and Spiritual Formation: Actively participate in the spiritual life of the school community. This includes leading or assisting with Campus Ministry, student retreats, school liturgies, prayer, and community service projects.
• Classroom Management: Cultivate an inclusive, positive, and safe classroom environment that encourages intellectual engagement, critical thinking, and open dialogue regarding faith and morals.
• Student Assessment: Evaluate student progress through assignments, quizzes, and exams. Maintain accurate records and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
• Family Communication: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding academic performance, behavioral expectations, and student growth.
• Collaboration and Community: Work collaboratively with the theology department, campus ministry, and administration to integrate faith and justice into the broader school culture.

Key Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Divinity, or a closely related field.
• State Teaching Certification Preferred.
• Faith Requirement: In good standing with the Catholic Church and committed to modeling those values.
• Background Check: Clearances and extensive background checks are required prior to employment.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience: 34,000.00 - 50,000.00
