Position: Structural Project Engineer
Reports to: Project Manager
Job Summary:
Loenbro is seeking a Structural/Mechanical Project Engineer to support our Structural/Mechanical Division. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy and quality of all structural and mechanical project aspects, providing engineering support to the project team, and facilitating successful project execution from conception through completion.

Responsibilities:
Technical Engineering Support:
Provide engineering support for structural steel erection, mechanical systems installation, and equipment setting. Review and interpret structural steel drawings, mechanical P IDs, and equipment layout plans. Perform structural and mechanical calculations to verify design integrity and compliance with AISC, AWS, and ASME codes. Coordinate with engineering teams to resolve technical issues and implement design changes.
Quality Control Inspection:
Implement and maintain quality control procedures for structural and mechanical work. Coordinate and witness structural steel inspections, weld testing, and mechanical system commissioning. Maintain inspection records and ensure all work meets project specifications and quality standards. Review material certifications for steel members, bolts, and mechanical components.
Document Management:
Maintain and organize all structural and mechanical documentation including shop drawings, fabrication documents, weld procedures, and equipment submittals. Manage RFIs specific to structural connections, mechanical systems, and equipment interfaces. Ensure all as-built documentation accurately reflects field installations.
Field Engineering Coordination:
Provide field engineering support for structural steel erection and mechanical equipment installation. Verify field dimensions, elevations, and alignments for structural fit-up and equipment setting. Coordinate with survey teams for layout verification and control points. Monitor field work for compliance with structural and mechanical specifications.
Procurement Materials Management:
Perform material take-offs from structural and mechanical drawings. Prepare technical specifications for purchase requisitions of structural steel, mechanical equipment, and specialty components. Review vendor submittals for technical compliance with project requirements. Track material deliveries and manage receiving inspections.
Planning Scheduling Support:
Assist in developing detailed installation sequences for structural steel and mechanical systems. Support the creation of project schedules with emphasis on structural erection sequences and mechanical system commissioning. Monitor progress against milestones and identify potential schedule impacts.
Safety Compliance:
Support the development of site-specific safety plans with focus on steel erection, crane operations, and mechanical installation hazards. Ensure all work complies with OSHA regulations and company safety standards. Participate in safety audits and incident investigations.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and mechanical system design
Proficiency with structural analysis software and mechanical design tools
Ability to perform structural calculations and review engineering designs
Knowledge of AISC, AWS, ASME, and other relevant codes and standards
Experience with steel connection design and detailing requirements
Understanding of mechanical equipment installation and commissioning
Excellent technical problem-solving and analytical skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software
Ability to read and interpret complex structural and mechanical drawings
Strong communication skills for technical coordination
Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
2-4 years of structural/mechanical engineering experience required
