Athletico is seeking a dedicated and experienced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join our onsite healthcare team for a PRN (as-needed) position located in New York City. This role is critical in providing immediate medical support on construction sites across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, ensuring that our construction workforce receives timely and effective healthcare in emergency situations.

Work Environment
This position requires onsite presence at various construction locations in New York City, primarily within the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. The EMT will become an integral part of the project teams on these sites, collaborating closely with construction personnel, safety teams, and healthcare professionals. The role involves confronting dynamic work conditions that may include varying environmental factors such as weather, noise levels, and physical hazards typical in construction settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Promptly respond to emergencies on construction sites, assessing the immediate needs of injured workers and administering basic first aid as required.
- Conduct thorough evaluations of injuries, determining the severity and appropriate course of treatment.
- Communicate effectively with medical professionals, including the Medical Director and external treatment facilities, to ensure comprehensive care is provided.
- Follow care plans provided by the Medical Control Officer, ensuring adherence to prescribed patient treatment protocols.
- Conduct daily safety walks at job sites, identifying potential hazards and reporting them for corrective action to maintain a safe work environment.
- Engage in proactive injury prevention initiatives, promoting health education and wellness programs tailored to the workforce's needs.
- Establish and maintain trusting relationships with employees, encouraging them to take responsibility for their health and safety.
- Collaborate with safety personnel to develop and implement rehabilitation and injury prevention strategies.
- Participate in health and safety meetings and contribute to ongoing program development.
Patient Population / Client Focus
The EMT will primarily serve a diverse group of construction employees who may have varying levels of experience and health backgrounds. Understanding the unique challenges faced by construction workers, such as exposure to hazardous materials and strenuous physical demands, is crucial in tailoring care and communication effectively.
Qualifications
- MUST hold a valid EMT certification obtained through state or national accredited bodies, with proof of reciprocity required.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as an EMT, specifically in high-stakes environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the capability to build positive rapport with clients and colleagues.
- Excellent communication skills to relay information clearly and effectively in emergency situations.
Preferred Experience
- Background in construction or familiarity with OSHA regulations and worker’s compensation protocols is a plus.
- Prior experience in a role requiring emergency response in industrial or construction settings.
- Certifications in OSHA 30 construction safety, First Aid, CPR, and AED are highly preferred.
- Experience in transport or as a First Responder is advantageous.
