Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Pediatric Physical Therapist Assistant role based in Southfield, MI. The Pediatric Physical Therapist Assistant will support licensed Physical Therapists in providing therapeutic interventions to children with a variety of physical and developmental needs. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing treatment plans, assisting with therapeutic exercises and activities, monitoring patient responses, and documenting progress in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards. The role also involves preparing treatment spaces and equipment, collaborating with other therapy disciplines, and communicating with caregivers about home exercise programs as directed by the supervising therapist. The Pediatric Physical Therapist Assistant will contribute to a child-centered, safe, and welcoming environment that supports family participation and positive outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Current state licensure or certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in Michigan, or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to start date.
  • Foundational knowledge of pediatric physical therapy principles, including gross motor development, functional mobility, and therapeutic exercise for children.
  • Ability to accurately follow and implement individualized treatment plans under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working collaboratively with children, caregivers, and a multidisciplinary therapy team.
  • Organizational and documentation skills to manage schedules, maintain timely and accurate treatment notes, and support compliance with clinic policies.
  • Demonstrated compassion, patience, and professionalism in working with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Comfort with providing hands-on care in an active, play-based therapy setting, including occasional lifting, positioning, and physical assistance.
  • Prior pediatric experience in an outpatient, school, or clinic setting is preferred but not required; willingness to learn pediatric-specific techniques is essential.
  • Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program; CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
