## Veterinary Technician Assistant: Emergency and Critical Care (36-40 hours/week)

This vital role will support and assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient care in the hospital's busy ER service. The starting hourly rate for this position is $20.00 (but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications). This position can be full or part-time, between 90% (36 hours) -100% (40 hours) FTE. The anticipated schedule is flexible, made at least 2-weeks in advance. Night, weekend, holiday, and on-call hours will be required as needed by the hospital.
You will be part of the School of Veterinary Medicine, UW Veterinary Care Hospital Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Unit and will perform a range of patient care and clinic support tasks. Responsibilities include:
- Assists with routine laboratory tests and specimen collection according to established medical orders and care plans (10%)
- Inventories and organizes supplies (10%)
- Assists with and executes the preparation, completion, and documentation of basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity (30%)
- Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities (5%)
- Cleans and maintains organization of animal holding spaces, work areas and equipment (25%)
- Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing (15%)
- Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions (5%)
Required qualifications are specific and practical: at least 2 years of professional experience in a veterinary clinic setting handling animals; the ability to work the required 36-40 hours per week; the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently; and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.
Preferred qualifications include 3-4 years of professional experience in a veterinary clinic setting handling animals, knowledge of good client-relation principles, and the ability to follow written and verbal rules and instructions accurately. Education: High School Diploma Preferred.
