Job Title: CNC Machinist / CNC Operator – Day Shift

Job Description

This role focuses on operating and setting up CNC machines in a high-volume production environment that manufactures large pipe, valve, and flange components. You will work primarily with pre-loaded programs, indicating parts, touching off tools, and making minimal G-code edits while machining large carbon steel and stainless steel parts on vertical mills and other large CNC equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machines in a production shop using pre-loaded programs, including indicating parts and touching off tools to ensure accurate machining.
  • Machine large components such as flanges, elbows, fittings, well necks, and slip-ons, typically ranging from 48" to 60" in diameter.
  • Perform setups on CNC equipment and make minimal edits using G-code to optimize part quality and machine performance.
  • Run longer cycle jobs on larger parts with wide open tolerances, monitoring machines during extended run times.
  • Operate vertical mills with Siemens controls to bore large parts and maintain consistent quality throughout long production runs.
  • Work with materials including carbon steel and stainless steel, adjusting setups and tooling as needed for different materials and part sizes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to confirm part dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
  • Use and operate equipment such as vertical turret lathes (VTL), horizontal boring mills (HBM), horizontal lathes, and other large machining centers as needed.
  • Utilize Fanuc and Siemens control systems to load programs, verify correct offsets, and troubleshoot basic control issues.
  • Perform in-process inspections to verify that machined parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with other machinists, forklift drivers, and shop personnel to coordinate material flow and maintain production schedules.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of overhead cranes and jib cranes to move large, heavy parts safely.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and report any equipment issues or potential hazards to supervision.
  • Support both day and night shift operations as needed, depending on production requirements.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5+ years of experience as a CNC machinist or CNC operator in a production or machine shop environment.
  • Proficiency operating CNC vertical mills, including setup, indicating, and touching off tools.
  • Ability to make minimal edits using G-code to adjust programs for quality and efficiency.
  • Hands-on experience with Fanuc controls and/or Siemens controls on CNC machines.
  • Experience machining large parts such as flanges, elbows, fittings, well necks, and slip-ons.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with carbon steel and stainless steel materials.
  • Familiarity with operating or working around vertical turret lathes (VTL) and horizontal boring mills (HBM).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and understand tolerances.
  • Comfort working in a high-volume production environment with long run times and repetitive part families.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts within specified tolerances.
  • Ability to safely use overhead cranes and jib cranes to handle large, heavy parts.
  • Effective communication skills to work within a diverse team and coordinate with other shop personnel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating horizontal lathes and other large CNC machining centers.
  • Experience in machining components for the pipe, valve, and flange (PVF) or pipeline-related industries.
  • Familiarity with Doosan or similar large CNC machine tools.
  • Prior experience in a large, busy machine shop environment with both CNC and manual machining operations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends, depending on production needs.
  • Comfort working with wide open tolerances while maintaining consistent quality across long production runs.

Why Work Here?
