The Transportation Operations Manager oversees all daily transportation operations to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient transport of clients, customers, and children. This role is responsible for route planning and scheduling, supervising and developing transportation and dispatch staff, leading recruitment and hiring efforts, and enforcing company policies, safety standards, and performance expectations. The manager plays a critical role in operational planning, regulatory compliance, employee relations, and continuous improvement of transportation services.

Operations & Planning

  • Plan, manage, and optimize driver routes and schedules to meet service requirements, safety standards, and efficiency goals
  • Oversee daily transportation operations to ensure on-time performance, service quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Monitor and analyze operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Coordinate with internal departments, schools, programs, families, and external partners to ensure smooth and reliable transportation services

People Management

  • Directly supervise drivers and other support staff, including dispatchers and call-takers
  • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance evaluations
  • Provide coaching, training, and professional development to support employees
  • Address employee issues including attendance, performance concerns, and disciplinary actions, up to and including termination
  • Oversee new hire onboarding training of software, equipment and review of company policies and procedures
  • Foster a positive, safety-focused, and accountable work environment

Recruitment & Staffing

  • Assist with recruitment efforts, including applicant screening, interviews, and hiring recommendations
  • Oversee onboarding, training, and certification of new transportation and operations staff
  • Ensure staffing levels meet operational needs and minimize service disruptions

Administrative & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records related to scheduling, staffing, performance, and disciplinary actions
  • Oversee progressive discipline, as applicable
  • Manage employee minimums and ensure accuracy of data entry
  • Prepare and present operational, staffing, and performance reports for review
  • Assist with budgeting, cost control, and resource planning related to operations

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet operations
  • 3+ years of supervisory or management experience
  • Strong knowledge of routing, scheduling, and workforce management
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) or scheduling software
  • Knowledge of DOT or other relevant transportation regulations
  • Experience transporting children, clients, or vulnerable populations
  • Experience in labor relations or union environments

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
