Job Title: Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT)

Reports to: Special Education Coordinator

Work Status: Part or Full-Time

Responsible for management of the early childhood special education services in accordance with the goals of Rochester Childfirst Network and the New York State Education Department Preschool

Guidelines. Reports to the Special Education Coordinator.

Principle Responsibilities:

1. Plans and implements developmentally appropriate services and activities, in conjunction with classroom and/or family members, for preschool students assigned to you within the general education and home settings.

2. Evaluate performance of children in program in all areas of development, using informal assessments, anecdotal records, and discussion with staff as needed. a. Monitor speech, language, psychological, occupational, physical, and behavior therapy need. b. Attain Prior Written Notice and Written Consent for all necessary formal evaluation activities.

3. Implement IEP (Individual Education Plan) for each child in accordance with New York State

Department of Education guidelines and updates.

4. Meet all State Education record keeping and reporting requirements including: a. Complete IEP quarterly updates in a complete and timely fashion. b. Complete annual review testing, reports and IEP goal updates. c. Share results with parents/caregivers during parent conferences. d. Advocate for the child by attending Committee on Preschool Special Education or

Committee on Special Education meetings as scheduled by the Home School District.

5. Keep logs of contacts, planning activities, dates of sessions/student attendance summaries, and units of service to be turned in monthly.

6. Talk with parents concerning child’s progress and activities no less than monthly during the program year.

7. Maintain the following records for each child in program: a. Parent correspondence b. Functioning levels of student c. Health/abuse/ or other concerns

8. Develop and maintain positive rapport with parents and co-teachers.

9. Supervise students in fieldwork positions if required.

10. Develop relationships with professionals in the community regarding specific students at RCN and those seen outside RCN.

11. Evaluate, monitor and implement Functional Behavior Assessments specific to a child’s needs and amend as necessary.

12. Support school wide positive behavior approaches when operating within the RCN program.

13. Other duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree with dual NYS certifications in early childhood/elementary and special education.

Pay: $28.00 - $36.00 per hour
