Responsibilities

I. JOB SUMMARY:

  • Assists the pharmacist in the processing and filling of prescriptions and medication/medical supply orders.
  • Reviews and enters orders & patient information into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Processes and assists in the maintenance of pharmacy inventory.
  • Performs sales transactions and provides customers/patients with information about medications, health insurance, and other health care related services.
  • Files third-party insurance claims on paper and electronically.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Finger dexterity. Seeing. Hearing. Speaking.

B. MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:

  • Occasional: Lift floor to waist between 21-35 lbs. Lift waist to shoulder between 21-35 lbs. Carry between 21-35 lbs. Push and Pull between 36-50 lbs.

C. NON-MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:

  • Infrequent: N/A
  • Occasional: Sit. Stoop/Bend. Kneel. Twist. Squat.
  • Frequent: Reach: shoulder level. Reach: above head. Gripping.
  • Constant: Stand. Walk.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Some exposure to cold temperature from freezer.
  • Exposure to noise/vibration from office/pharmacy equipment.
  • Exposure to body fluids, chemicals and contact with patients with communicable diseases.
  • May be required to work with hazardous drugs, depending upon area of assignment.
  • Work environment is fast paced, crowded and may be stressful.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION:

  • Completion of pharmacy technical program or on-the-job education/pharmacy work experience preferred.

B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

  • Current Hawaii State certificate of registration as a Pharmacy Technician.

C. EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year of work experience, preferably as pharmacy technician/clerk.
  • Experience to demonstrate:
  • Ability to handle cash transactions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to be accurate and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to operate different machines such as computer, calculator, cash register.
