Responsibilities
I. JOB SUMMARY:
- Assists the pharmacist in the processing and filling of prescriptions and medication/medical supply orders.
- Reviews and enters orders & patient information into the pharmacy computer system.
- Processes and assists in the maintenance of pharmacy inventory.
- Performs sales transactions and provides customers/patients with information about medications, health insurance, and other health care related services.
- Files third-party insurance claims on paper and electronically.

- Infrequent: N/A
- Occasional: Sit. Stoop/Bend. Kneel. Twist. Squat.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
- Some exposure to cold temperature from freezer.
- Exposure to noise/vibration from office/pharmacy equipment.
- Exposure to body fluids, chemicals and contact with patients with communicable diseases.
- May be required to work with hazardous drugs, depending upon area of assignment.
- Work environment is fast paced, crowded and may be stressful.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION:
- Completion of pharmacy technical program or on-the-job education/pharmacy work experience preferred.
B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- Current Hawaii State certificate of registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
C. EXPERIENCE:
- One (1) year of work experience, preferably as pharmacy technician/clerk.
- Experience to demonstrate:
- Ability to handle cash transactions.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to be accurate and attentive to detail.
- Ability to work in a high-volume, sometimes stressful environment.
- Ability to operate different machines such as computer, calculator, cash register.
