We are thriving Misc, Iron contractor seeking a back-up/second truck driver that can help with unloading raw materials and loading fabricated materials. This position will also provide support for shop operations with material handling, staging and inventory.
Responsibilities:
- Driving & Transportation
- Commercial Transport: Safely operate commercial vehicles (e.g., flatbeds, Class A/B/C trucks) to deliver fabricated steel and pick up raw materials.
- Load Securement: Properly tie down, strap, and tarp large, irregularly shaped steel loads to prevent shifting during transit.
- Compliance: Adhere to all DOT regulations, maintain accurate driving logs, and perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Material Handling & Yard Management
- Heavy Equipment Operation: Safely use forklifts, overhead cranes, and hoists to move heavy steel plates, beams, tubes and assemblies throughout the shop.
- Loading & Unloading: Assist with staging, loading, and unloading raw materials and finished products at the facility and client sites.
- Inventory Control: Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, label steel stock correctly, and help conduct inventory counts.
- Shop & Production Support
- Staging: Pull and stage raw materials (e.g., sheet metal, structural beams) needed for daily fabrication and welding operations.
- General Fabrication Assistance: Assist production teams with parts cleaning, deburring, grinding, or applying protective coatings to finished metal parts.
- Safety Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized work environment. Adhere strictly to all OSHA standards and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Qualifications:
- Licensing: Valid CDL (Class A or B depending on truck size) with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Operate a tractor trailer
- Operate a stake bed truck
- Operate a pick up truck with a gooseneck trailer
- Experience: Prior experience operating heavy equipment in an industrial setting, ideally in metal manufacturing, steel yards, or similar fabrication facilities.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to frequently lift and move objects up to 50 lbs, and comfortably stand, bend, or climb for extended periods in varying temperatures.
- Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to read a tape measure, and basic knowledge of rigging and crane hand signals.
- Must pass a back round check and the DOT physical
